The rumours arose amid uncertainty surrounding Ronaldo’s future, as his contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr is set to expire in June 2025. Though the prospect of Ronaldo reuniting with Mourinho – his former manager at Real Madrid, where they won a La Liga title – has excited fans, the likelihood of such a move appears minimal.

Mourinho referred to Edin Dzeko, Cenk Tosun, and Youssef En-Nesyri as the foundation of his attack and emphasised that he has no intention of altering his forward lineup.

"Cristiano Ronaldo will not come," he told reporters. "The first reason is that I have three good forwards and I don't want another one. Cristiano will always be Cristiano, but I don't want him because I'm happy with my forwards. He has the money he earns in Saudi Arabia and a goal of 1,000 goals. What could motivate him to come to Turkey, other than the beauty of Istanbul?"

Mourinho also expressed scepticism about mid-season transfers. "I don't really like the January transfer window because the player who comes needs a certain amount of time," he said. "I never say no to a transfer, but I don't knock on Ali Bey's or Acun Bey's door and say I want a transfer."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Under Mourinho’s guidance, Fenerbahce have enjoyed a strong start to the Turkish Super Lig season. The Istanbul-based club currently sits second in the standings with 32 points from 13 matches, trailing leaders Galatasaray by three points. They also boast the league's most potent attack, having netted 36 goals so far.
